Now you can, with Restricted State Manager/400 (RSM/400). RSM/400 allows you to schedule backups, including SAVSYS to be run at your discretion. You can schedule reclaim storage or indeed any command or program to run when you want it to, directly from the console.

This is a perfect cost effective solution for those companies with remote sites. At the remote site you just need a user to sign on to the console, the rest can be managed remotely. The console sign on required has no command line or menu. Once the console is signed on the only thing you can do is sign off again insuring that your console remains secure. If you are concerned about having to change your inactivity system value to stop the console from being signed off, do not be. RSM/400 is designed to not be effected by the QINACTITV system value.

The software has error recovery built in, any problems encountered and the software brings the system back up, never leaving you exposed with a system down.

In addition to the restricted task capability, the software allows you to choose what type of backup you would like to complete. If the pre-defined list does not meet your requirements we also provide you with the flexibility to define your own library save set.

The secret of RSM is its appearance of simplicity. After installation, there are only two steps to schedule a restricted state task; choose the option you would like to run in a restricted state from one of the menus then sign on to the console as RSM, set-up complete. The system will go into a restricted state, run whatever command you have scheduled and bring the system back up again.
